Air ducts system
Repair & Replacement
Your house or building has a network of air ducts, whose primary function is to transport adequately hot or cold air to the interior. A good system of air ducts depends greatly in its design, insulation capacity and connectivity. Usually, air ducts are located in attics or area of the building where the ambient temperature is extremely hot or cold. With time, the severe ambient weakens the construction of air ducts, connections and components.
Cracks and degradation of air duct construction will cause a great loss of the air circulation to the interior. Consequently, your HVAC unit will use more energy and works harder to compensate the loss of air circulation. Also, the cracks and degradation of the air ducts will reduce substantially the quality of air ventilation. Thus, the air circulating to the interior of the house or building becomes contaminated with insulation material, dust mites, bacteria, mold spores, pollen and other allergenic agents. Here are some of the common signs of failure in the duct system:
- The sweeping and dusting of your furniture are more frequent.
- After vacuuming and dusting you notice some airborne dust floating in the air.
- After or during sleep, you experience headaches, nasal congestion, or other sinus problem.
- Poor airflow, room vents emitting very little airflow in the room.
- You are getting sick frequently or experience allergenic symptoms.
- When using the furnace or air conditioning unit, the air has a stale odor.
- Air vents and register have signs of mold accumulation due to condensation in the duct system.
All these signs are indicating a problem in the duct system. It is important to maintain the duct system in good condition to insure an adequate airflow and quality of air. Feld studies conducted by entities like Energy Star indicated an average loss of 20% for the energy used to maintain an acceptable ambient temperature. Obviously, the problems of poor air circulation, contamination and higher consumption of energy have a great impact in the health and economy of the owner or occupants. The solution is a thoroughly revision and evaluation of the air duct system. This evaluation will determine the best course of action to repair the system or replacement.
